Who is Teach Voice?
I’m Chris Johnson, and I’m the founder of the transformative vocal coach training academy, Teach Voice.
Thanks to my beginnings as a professional singer, I know firsthand the effect that late nights, hard songs and a demanding schedule can have on your vocal health. For me, it came to the point that I had to accept that I needed to completely change my technique if I was to save my career.
I spent a lot of time researching what adjustments would have the biggest impact, both on the quality and long-term health of my voice. I came to the conclusion that there was no ‘one size fits all’ answer, and it was necessary to draw from existing techniques (ancient and modern!), scientific research and physiological principles. I realised that the crucial element to all of this was understanding of how all of these random bits of knowledge could fit together, practically and for the vocal professional specifically.
This led me in an unexpected direction, towards what I then realised was my passion: helping others overcome their vocal barriers to achieve their true potential.
And so, my career as a coach began.
Since establishing Teach Voice, I’ve been lucky enough to work with signed artists at the highest level, talented backing and sessions vocalists, West End leading actors and jobbing singers. I have also presented on my coaching practices for organisations like the British Voice Association (BVA), The Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA) and the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS).
But it hasn’t all been coaching. In 2013, I co-founded what is now one of the world’s most popular podcasts on singing, ‘The Naked Vocalist’. Not only does this give me a chance to share my knowledge for free, it has given me the opportunity to connect with highly innovative voice pioneers, including Dr. Ingo Titze, Dr. Reena Gupta and Jeannie Lovetri.
Today, Teach Voice boasts an alumni community of contemporary singing teachers and coaches. I’m particularly proud of this, since I know firsthand that a career in coaching can be a somewhat isolating one, and yet personal development so often comes from the connection and influence of others.

It's understandable to want to do a little 'background check' on the person who you want to train with. Fortunately, I have had a great time contributing to all kinds of podcasts and shows that are all available to consume right away.
